Training load: context, not numbers

Training load is one of the most tracked metrics in sports. Total distance, high-speed running, player load, RPE × duration. The numbers are easy to collect. The context is hard.

A player who ran 8km in a session — is that high or low? It depends on their position, their recent load history, the session type, and their individual capacity. Without that context, the number is noise.

At Kinetiq, we pair load data with wellness data. If a player's load spiked and their wellness dropped the next day, that's a signal. If their load was high but wellness stayed stable, they're adapting. The combination tells the story.

We also keep it simple for coaches. They don't need to see every metric. They need to see: was this session heavy or light? Is the player recovering? Should we adjust tomorrow?

Context, not numbers. That's the principle.
